COMMITTEE DESCRIPTIONS

WATERFRONT COMMITTEE:

The BYC waterfront focus is about providing access to the water.  Our goal is to make sure members have well maintained facilities to make their boating enjoyable.

Meeting Date and Time:  2nd Tuesday of the month at 6:30pm at clubhouse and Zoom

Done in a Day Projects: Build and maintain floats, piers and other projects. Spring float haul-in and Fall haul-out

Longer Projects:  Subcommittee work such as dock expansion/replacement program

RACE COMMITTEE:

Race committee organizes and runs racing to support the sport of sailing

Done in a Day:  Help organize and run races.  This includes weekend and weeknight racing at the club.

Needed are race officers, mark set, and judges.  On shore need assistance with event registration, lunches and dinners for some events.  If you are interested in signing up please Register via this Link.

JUNIOR COMMITTEE:

Our goal is to plan fun family friendly activities at the club throughout the summer.

Meeting Date and time:  2nd Thursday of the month at BYC

Done in a Day:  Assist with Junior events and activities such as Hawaiian Night, Pirate Day, Family Carnival and Outdoor Movie Night

CRUISING COMMITTEE:

The BYC Cruising Committee plans, promotes, and executes the BYC member cruises, including the Annual Summer Cruise.

Meeting Date and Time: Third Wednesday of the month at 7pm at the clubhouse and by Zoom.

Done in a Day Projects: Assist Day Captains and Cruise chair in; preparing Mainsheet and Weekly articles;  organizational tasks and contacts; preparing food and drinks for cruise parties; lead daily cruise events.

Longer Projects: Assisting Day Captains and Cruise chair in updating Cruising Guides and cruise planning;  subcommittee work in planning distance cruises abroad and regionally; planning daily cruise events.

SOCIAL COMMITTEE:

Plan and implement social activities at the BYC. Maintain records of vendors and entertainment options

Meeting Dates and Times: First Tuesday of the month.  All meetings start at 6:30

Done in a Day: Assist with any club events such as Commissioning, Commodore’s Ball, Decommissioning.  Contribute talents to any event helping with the following activities; set up for and event and break down an event, make center pieces for events, arranging caterer or entertainment, check in guests at events.

INSTRUCTIONAL COMMITTEE:

Our committee offers sailing programs to youth and adults in partnership with East Bay Sailing Foundation (EBSF) We maintain 50 boats, 20 moorings a web site and MORE!

Support us by Chartering a J22for Wednesday or Thursday evening

Meeting Dates and Times: 2nd Monday of the month at BYC and by Zoom at 6:30

Done in a Day: Saturday Morning work parties for fleet preparations.  Muster at Neptune’s Beach Bar May and June.  Launching and Hauling parties for Mercuries or J22s, May June August and September

Additional Opportunities: Openings for volunteers to teach adults and youth, mentor instructors, prepare boats and equipment, help fund raise.

HOUSE COMMITTEE:

Maintain the house building, repairs and updates.  Maintain the Ship’s Store.” Proprietors” of Saturday Morning Coffee Shop at Neptune’s Beach Bar, May to September, and provide speaker/ dinner events monthly.

Meetings Dates and Times: First Wednesday of the month except first Thursday June to September, 6:30 at BYC and Zoom

Done in a Day:  Kitchen Crew prepare Friday Night Dinners, set up and serve coffee and pastries at Beach Bar Saturdays 8-11, Assist Ship’s Store for setup / sell at pop up sales

MEMBERSHIP COMMITTEE:

Review applications and converse with applicants as to appropriateness of the fit between them and our club.  We want to ensure that both the applicant and the club will benefit from this nautical relationship.

Meeting Dates and Times: first Thursday of each month at 7:00pm

Volunteer Opportunities:  Volunteer to be a sponsor and we will connect you with a prospective new member.

GROUNDS COMMITTEE:

Responsible for ensuring the grounds of BYC are as beautiful and functional as possible in service of activities throughout the year. This includes everything from maintaining plants shrubs and trees as well as hardscape, signage, lighting, and site maintenance year-round.

Meeting Dates and Times:  Not established to date

Done in a Day:  Spring and Fall clean up, Yard clean up after dock launch, Plant “cutting garden” for club use throughout the season, and Playground repairs
