At 0300 AM on June 23, 2024, two days into the 2024 Newport Bermuda Race, Alliance, a J/122 sailboat co-captained by Eric Irwin and Mary Martin, struck an object and began taking on water through their rudder post.  Within an hour Alliance's captains and crew had abandoned ship and been taken aboard by Ceilidh, a J/121 out of Mattapoisett, skippered by James Coggeshall. Almost exactly two days later, on June 25th at 0451 AM, the combined crew of 16 people crossed the finish line off Saint David's Lighthouse and safely arrived in Bermuda.
