New for this season, Bristol Yacht Club will be running a Match Racing series on Monday nights—bringing tactical, head-to-head sailing to the forefront of our summer program.
Match racing is a one-on-one competition between two identical boats—in our case, J/22s—on a short, closed course. It’s not just about speed; it’s about outsmarting your opponent using tactical maneuvers, especially during the intense pre-start phase where positioning is everything. Umpires (off-rotation sailors) will be on the water to make real-time rule calls, keeping the action sharp and the racing fair.

On-the-water umpiring by sailors – when you're off rotation, you hop in the powerboat and serve as umpire

About: The Millard Series PHRF and Sea Sprite one-design series is our biggest and most participated Club race series every year. Six fleets with 35 to 45 boats, 22 to 50 feet, in length participate in spinnaker and non-spinnaker classes Wednesday evenings starting at 6 pm and finishing south of mooring field.

Contact PHRF-NB and apply for your handicap rating certificate. Only after PHRF-NB publishes the certificate is the rating valid.

Once receive rating, sign up to race using the Yacht Scoring Registration link below . Provide your information including inputting your rating, reading, accepting the Skipper's Waiver and selecting your racing class

Use Pay for Registration link and make your payment. All must be completed before you can be scored.

J/22 One Design Series - Thursdays

First Race: Thursday, May 29, 2025 (No race on July 3rd)
Last Race: Thursday, August 28, 2025
About: J/22 one-design racing. 6 pm start with J/22 class boats starting and finishing south of mooring field. Great competition with this fast-growing fleet. Multiple races per night on Thursdays. Charter your J/22 for the season with EBSF.

Foil Racing Series - Saturdays

About: Foiling has quickly become the pinnacle of high-performance sailboat racing. The sport attracts a diverse group of participants, including women and youth, and Bristol Harbor - with its deep water and consistent wind - is the premier location for foil-based water sports on the East Coast. BYC’s foiling races are open to foiling boards and foiling windsurfers and excluding all kite foils.
